On Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Ferme Vachalê in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines will welcome the public for the 21st annual UPA Open House. This year’s event will be particularly significant as the Charbonneau family celebrates 350 years of agricultural history, dating back to their ancestors’ arrival on Laval Island in 1675.
A bit of history
Established in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines since 1962, the farm is now in its 12th generation of farmers. Its herd numbers nearly 400 cows, 160 of which are lactating, fed with crops from the family land, guaranteeing high-quality milk with a consistent taste, summer and winter. From this expertise, Lait Charbonneau Dairy was born in 2022. True to its slogan “From farm to table,” it distinguishes itself with eco-responsible farm products, free of preservatives and made with local ingredients.
Its cheeses have already won over a wide audience: the popular cheese curds, the vacuum-aged creamy cheddar, as well as the feta and spreadable cheese, the first in Quebec to receive the Fromage fermier Lait de vache ( Farmhouse Cow’s Milk Cheese) certification. In 2022, the farm was also recognized as one of the three most eco-responsible in Quebec.

Open house on September 7, 2025
The Open House will offer a complete family experience with inflatable games, face painting, a Zamboni clown, a corn roast, and food from La Cuisine de Rang. Partners from the agricultural sector, including Lactanet, the MAPAQ, and the UPA, will also be present with their booths. Visitors can also explore a tractor exhibit and participate in guided tractor rides.
Through this day, the Charbonneau family wishes to share its passion and heritage, while promoting sustainable and innovative agriculture.
